Motorcycle Review
Suzuki SV650
by Steve

These little V-twins are really sweet.

For a small capacity 90 Degree twin, these rev hard & can be ridden fast.

The suspension is too soft, the rear tyre is smaller than most, but help it feel light & steer quick, the brakes aren't of any street cred, being twin disc, 2 piston sliding caliper jobbies, but do the job ok, but this revy 650 motor makes up for all, making it heaps of fun to thrash.

When I first rode one new 10 years ago, the same opinion has stood the test of time. I still love riding this baby, & with 40,000k's on it, it hasn't suffered none.

The pegs seem too low, with having to tippee toe to avoid wrecking the boots on the corners, but corner speed is maintained while keeping it revving to get on the gas early to an indicated top speed of over 220k, which makes it no slouch among other sporties on most roads.

For Stunting, these seem to have what is needed.

Wheelies are so easy, just a little clutch & it's on balance, & so easy to go through the gears. While it's reving @ about 8, the power is so controllable, there's no need to put the wheel back down.

While this bike is good for wheelies, I'm told by one bike mechanic they run the big end bearings if wheelied too much. (He said he'd rebuilt 2 of them) I recommend regular oil changes with high quality synthetic oil, & keeping it @ the top oil level.

Chris Pfeiffer (world legend free styler) used to stunt one. Can't get any more cred than that, hay!

Stoppies are easy & controllable too. While the brakes work ok on this light bike, it rolls along on the front wheel so smooth & controllable. Like most Jap bikes with rubber lines, the lever is soft & comes to the bar. This is fixed by steel brake lines, or set the lever dial half way between 1 & 2, which will put the lever out further. To make it stay in this position, drill a little dimple on the position locater.

To wrap it up, this bike will always be a favourite for me.

It can be ridden as fast as any other trough the twisties, or stunted as well as high horse power inline fours.

As a bike for beginners or girls it's an easy ride, & a great commuter, & you should never get left behind.
